Hello everyone, I own an ASUS ROG Strix SCAR III equipped with an i7 9750H and RTX 2070 setup, using it for deep learning training. Models consistently run for over eight hours, with CPU temps near 90°C and GPU temps between 65-70°C. The GPU power consumption varies from 80 to 110W, and I always keep the charger connected. I’m worried about the long-term health of these parts, particularly the CPU under sustained heat and the laptop’s power system. Is it safe to keep using it like this, and what effects might it have on their lifespan? TIA...

The product's design is quite typical. It operates with excessive power, similar to a laptop forced into a 1/2" thick enclosure. It includes a warranty.

Just like back then when I had free electricity for folding, I like to keep the CPU away from heavy computing tasks when it gets too hot. No need to stress about the VRM since laptops are built to handle their thermal limits—either by slowing down or delivering peak performance.

Typically, power supplies are rated for 100,000 hours of continuous use. The battery usually fails first. If this occurs, replace it immediately, as a faulty battery can disable the charger.

Thanks for the response. Are the CPU temperatures a bigger issue, or is it fine to keep them around 90°C for about 6 to 8 hours? The key temperatures for the CPU are 100°C.

the throttle point is at 100c for a reason lol. 90C is very hot but shouldnt have extremely adverse effects on your components. if it spikes higher than 90c i'd maybe undervolt a little but 80-90C shouldnt be cause for worry. assuming youre running it completely stock, no reason to think its abnormally dangerous

The product is fully stocked, and the temperatures consistently hover near 95 degrees for a while. Thanks a lot for your response—I’m really sensitive to such high heat, especially with the cooling pad in place.

95C is clearly performing well. Concerns about the CPU are minimal; focus will be on surrounding parts such as memory. Reducing voltage is simple and can significantly lower temperatures. A refurbishment might be worth considering, along with applying thermal pads to hotspots to improve heat distribution. Those serious about laptop temperatures often use liquid metal or premium thermal pads, but standard options like TG Kryonaut or Arctic MX4, or even basic 7W/MK pads, can provide a noticeable upgrade over the original. Likely, someone on YouTube has already disassembled this device or a similar model and shared useful advice on where to place thermal pads.
