In ShellExView, choose Context Menu in the Options Filter by Extension Type section instead of just Preview/Drop Handlers. This will display items named Context Menu in the Type column. Exclude Microsoft entries and then turn off one third-party option at a time by logging off/on or restarting Explorer to verify. For Sysinternals Autoruns, move from the Everything tab to the Explorer tab. This view highlights shell extensions that appear in Explorer’s context menu. Search again for non-Microsoft entries such as cloud clients, GPU tools, PDF handlers, etc., and temporarily uncheck them to test.

Referenced image included. Selected Context Menu filter option. No matching results found. Appears unrelated to Microsoft products. On AutoRuns, only defender-related content visible in the explorer view. Should I disable defender for testing? Attached screenshot provided.

ShellExView displaying nothing in the context menu after hiding Microsoft entries suggests there are no apparent third-party shell extensions installed. In Autoruns, having only Defender items on the Explorer tab is typical. I wouldn’t turn off Defender extensions—they’re part of Windows. At this stage, the performance lag seems unrelated to context menu handlers. The next steps should involve: verifying if any third-party GPU tools, cloud sync applications, or PDF utilities are installed and temporarily removing them. Also, try creating a new Windows user account to determine if the problem persists. If it affects the whole system, consider running an in-place Windows repair using sfc scannow, DISM, or a full install.

Notice that the newest drivers in the Windows Update database aren't always the most recent ones. You should verify on the manufacturer's website for accuracy. In the days of Windows 98, you could have Windows check those sites and automatically download drivers, but I'm not sure if that feature still exists today.

For my laptop (Surface), the site sends us to the Surface app. When that happens, I click "Check for updates" inside the app, which takes us to the standard Windows update page. That page is current. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surf...8a7739e120

They keep directing you to the same database, just using another entry. I should have been more specific—I meant the GPU manufacturer, which is Intel. It's likely the newest version, but it's still worth looking into. The current release is: 32.0.101.7028 dated August 28th. Also check this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surf...8a7739e120

It happened in about 0.0000001 seconds—way too fast. That’s definitely unusual... (depending on what you consider under a second, it should be fine) But it’s not normal, right? Probably just a surface issue. I don’t have any MS hardware, so I’m not sure. I’d probably reinstall Windows now. The laptop should include a recovery disk? By the way, I recorded videos from my Windows 10 desktop and Windows 11 laptop, but I’m currently moving *important* files instead of copying them to my phone.

Sure, I get it. The link you shared points to the Surface App, which then goes to Windows Update. I just got the Intel Graphics software, but it didn’t show any updates and displayed an older driver version. Then I tried the Intel Driver Support tool, which found new drivers (image #2). I installed the Intel Graphics Driver Installer (image #3) and updated everything, including the APIONE feature. It seems like there are many different ways to handle the same thing, and it’s confusing why there are so many options. After trying to choose files and restarting, nothing changed.

I ran that the previous day mainly to fix a Bluetooth driver issue. I plan to try a fresh profile next time. Also, I’ll remove the PDF program I currently use. I don’t have any backups or cloud services unless it’s a mandatory Microsoft drive issue, which I think I’ve turned off.
