I’m looking at upgrading from a 2x16GB RAM setup to a 4x16GB 3600MHz configuration. I’m not very familiar with the differences, but I want to understand how this change might affect my gaming performance, loading speeds, startup times, and video editing in DaVinci or Premiere.

In order: It won't/marginally better No No Depends on how big the project is. Probably not though. It's almost certainly not worth the cost or effort to swap it unless there's a reason you need to. The 5800X3D just doesn't care about memory performance because of that massive cache, and the extra capacity likely isn't going to be used unless you're doing really large video editing projects.

When reaching memory limits, extra RAM can really help. What RAM are you currently using? Share the screenshot of your burner to check the RAM type. The difference between 3200 and 3600 is barely visible, and even less so between 3600c18 and 3600c16 (16-19-19). I suggest getting another 2x16 stick and testing it—slow speeds should still work fine.

Current and new specs have similar latency. Key points:
1. With 5800x3d it shouldn’t improve performance much.
2. No significant differences noted.
3. If RAM is limited, add more memory instead of swapping in new RAM.

Large editing projects are typically defined by their scope and file size, often involving extensive content creation or revisions. Usually, around 50 minutes of planning can generate files up to 10GB in size.

The Kingston Fury Beast RGB RAM appears stable, so upgrading might not be necessary.

Large animations often require high resolution and numerous effects, not just length. You can review your current usage in Premier/Resolve; if it stays under ~30GB of total system RAM, you probably won’t notice a change. If it exceeds that threshold and the page file is heavily used, increasing capacity might help.

I think I'll just upgrade to 4x the RAM I already have for the price, thanks.

Based on what I observe, you likely won't require more than 32GB of RAM. Consider increasing it later when switching platforms a few years from now. With the 5800X3D offering RAM options of 2933, 3000, 3200, 3333, or 3600, the choice doesn't significantly change performance. It shouldn't affect your FPS even if a 4x16GB configuration enables dual-ranking, nor will it influence loading times. It may slightly extend startup time. Its main impact is on video rendering if your system is limited by current RAM. Running four sticks places more demand on the memory controller compared to two.

More than 32GB of RAM is clearly unnecessary for most activities (at least for the time being)
