64 GB is just a joke. You won't have only your operating system. Not in this case either. Considering how much these drives cost today, even a 120 GB one isn't the best deal.
So now you need enough room for those Windows updates. That might mean another thirty gigabytes at least. Also don't run out of space on your hard drive. Let's check what kind of setup this thing has got.
I'm stuck on Windows. You have to reinstall if you want to leave the program alone. They keep sending me bad versions that change every time. The size changes too and some things break when updates come out, unless you are really lucky. It's a bad idea for me because I tried it once already so why bother? I got this thing in 2012 but who cares anymore? Maybe Win11 won't even fit on that Seagate drive anyway.
Hello, thank you all for your replies. I can't show you pictures because I don't know how to take them. I have many hard drives in my system, but I have a 1 TB SSD that I put the operating system on. In that 1 TB drive, I made a partition with 120 GB of space. There, I put the OS. After I finished adding all the programs like Windows, there are about 30 GB free in that OS drive for me and my files. It looks like 120 GB is used, but you say after you added your programs (and since I got many) around 400 GB should be left out of a total of 500 GB. Which means my 120 GB are not fully used. My main question is: how much free space do I need on the drive so that the OS runs properly? And I am very sorry for using bad language, because English isn't my native tongue.
No. A 120 GB space isn't enough if you plan to keep using that drive long term. You will probably have problems later on. Why do you need to make separate sections of this drive? Just leave it as is the full 1 TB, and continue with what you have.
I know it's better to have my operating system on a separate drive. Thanks for the advice, so I'm going to format that big hard drive now and install the OS there while leaving all that extra room empty. I'll just use that free space for my games. You're welcome.
Here is a simpler version: Is there one extra hard drive, like a second one? Or just a new spot on the main big drive (like making a smaller section)? Probably not. That's because you have to check it out yourself.
If you need to split up your hard disk, take out two hundred gigabytes just for the operating system and your programs. Don't go under that number.
