I believe DX12 marks the conclusion of DX and opens the door to a broader standard. Vulkan offers a significant edge since it works across all platforms, unlike DX12 which relies on Windows 10 for consoles.

It's probable, but the accurate wording would be how long it takes for dx12 to reach the standard. The typical timeline is about 3 to 4 years for an average game development cycle.

The release of Far Cry Prime is set for March. It seems developers had access to the API prior to the launch. Also, the split will occur on the same day as Far Cry, while Ubisoft is simultaneously releasing two titles.

Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell back DX12. For AMD, every GCN card will work with it.

No business truly focuses on dx12 except Microsoft because its main goal was pushing users toward Windows 10. While it offers some graphics upgrades, those changes could come from other sources. The only clear advantage I see is possible performance gains, which might just be marketing hype (since we still lack a reliable comparison method). I’d prefer to see dx12 fail and vulcan gain popularity, or dx12 adapted for Windows 7/8 instead of sticking with Windows 10.

I am silently waiting for Vulkan to become available. I cannot wait for OpenGL to be scrapped.
