I'm looking into a project that requires a portable virtual machine. I plan to use a 750GB USB 3.0 portable drive. Can anyone share their experience with Windows 7 or 10 on such drives? Also, what’s your preference between Wamp and XAMPP for setting up a CMS site?

This should function well in a virtual machine. Performance may decrease on an external HDD because the USB port is relatively slow, and smaller hard drives tend to be slower overall.

It functions well in the virtual environment, but you must devise a method to offset slow read and write rates so the concept remains valuable.

It didn't work well. I used Windows 7 Pro on a USB 2 hard drive without any problems, and it felt like a regular SATA device.
