You visit the metro for reasons beyond just transportation—it’s a choice you make for convenience or necessity. The search bar doesn’t capture the full picture because it only shows a limited view.

It needs to be noted that I had around 30 programs saved for quick access. Finding what I need usually takes about 7 seconds and gives the same outcomes each time.

I believe you're missing a lot of potential in modern UI design. You can add significantly more without losing focus.

Start with a clean UI setup to achieve decent results, but also consider whether a traditional start menu offers the best way to present data. The focus should be on effective display, not just information quantity. In my view, it’s a disorganized mess.

Yes, that's whole other point, I responded to the point that modern ui can display as much "information" (a word that seems to be loosely used with not much precision) as a standard win 7 style start menu. I agree that tiles only work when the distance between you and the screen is significant. Clicking on icons, or typing in web addresses is a pain when the font is soo tiny. your eluding that the ui should be set in stone out of the box by saying that The ui is designed similar to the mobile "desktop", for touch screens, this works great. That's why in my "implementation" the tiles are still there. On a smart phone someone may spend upwards of 30 minutes trying to get their "desktop" just right (even longer if they are new to android, cause of all the launchers), it takes a bit of time to make your ui look attractive to you. On windows, if you go my route, I treated the modern UI as a different OS all together, Modern UI is entertainment, and desktop is for everything else.

Tbh, I really like the charms bar. It has a classic start, but I never actually use it. Plus, I have a Windows key lock on my keyboard.

Interesting, the last time I tried a "bring-back-start" it was really problematic. It didn’t respond to the Windows key and wouldn’t let me hit WK followed by typing. I’d attempt it again, but I’ve grown accustomed to the Windows 8 interface.
