How I would make Win8 better.
This update isn't exactly on schedule, but IDGAF. I still notice complaints about Windows 8.1. It seems these users haven't used Windows 8 for a while and have resorted to workarounds like "classic start" options. Interesting tidbit: pressing WK (Windows key) plus S brings up the search bar without occupying the entire screen, delivering results as intended. That thought sparked an idea. If I could redesign the Start menu, I’d replace the search bar with small icons—similar to the Metro interface—that vanish once the box appears. I’d keep it simple: only a few apps visible, like a name followed by your profile. I made this entirely in MS Paint, so it might look a bit rough (sarcasm). Pressing WK + S covers roughly one-eighth of the screen, which feels reasonable. It’s straightforward—I think most users would stick to three apps: internet, email, and a word processor. The power users would need more options. In the empty space, I’d add tiny tiles that disappear when the search box shows content. I spent over five minutes tweaking it, all in MS Paint, so... well, that’s the way it is. Of course, the background color can be adjusted—it just happened to be a screenshot of the modified search screen from my laptop. What do you all think? If this were Windows 8.2 (which I doubt), would you support it?
I understand, but I really appreciate the UI occupying the whole screen—it acts like another desktop to accommodate more content.
I use the full screen interface on my TV most of the time—it’s much more convenient than squinting to read small text from across the room. EDIT: Thanks for actually addressing my question instead of just focusing on search speed complaints, which isn’t relevant here.
I mean the standard search method. Windows 7? WK+S in 8 refers to the specific settings or features you're asking about.
Are we using a different operating system? I really hate the current interface. It just shows the same information in a much less efficient manner and even messes up the search functionality. I’m a fan of Windows 8, but modern interfaces can be problematic.
