I’ve been using Skype for a while but it seems to be stopping working. A friend suggested Telegram and Discord as alternatives. How do those platforms function? For Skype, you need an email, a username, and a password. You can access it on both Windows laptops and iPhones. Telegram works similarly—sign up with an email, create a username and password, and use it across devices. Both require unique identifiers for security. Many users find these options convenient compared to Skype.

Telegram requires a phone number during registration, similar to Viber or WhatsApp. Once provided, you can access it on your device and install an app for your Windows laptop, just like with those services. For Discord, you register using an email address. Applications are available for both smartphones and Windows laptops. No... the focus isn't on your username—you won’t be bombarded with daily invites or random sign-ups, it’s not a typical social platform. Ultimately, it depends on what your friends and family currently use or are open to using.

The phone number for Telegram can be from any country, including Google Voice numbers. It doesn’t need to come from a regular carrier.

Microsoft shared they are retiring Skype. It seems they're focusing more on Teams subscriptions. On Discord, you authenticate with an email and password, then pick a username visible to others. You can chat one-on-one, voice call, or video call like on Skype. Users also join servers created by others. Many people can chat at the same time in groups. Discord works through a browser and apps for Windows, Android, iOS, etc.

I found information suggesting telegram may block users linked to Google Voice accounts. It seems they can enforce this at any time, so using a standard phone number might be safer. This could affect your access if you lose your Telegram account unexpectedly. I’m curious about usage patterns—do most people here rely on Windows computers or primarily use their phones? For Discord, I tested it on a laptop and thought it was fine, but using it on a phone felt more challenging. I also remember struggling with group chats on an iPhone. My preference leans toward a Windows laptop for ease of navigation.

They shared a link to the new Discord for the Skype group you're part of. You click it to join, right? The main concern is whether clicking on the link poses any malware or virus risk. There are ways to verify this. Regarding Telegram, you can add someone by sending them a link or searching their name. On Skype, accepting a connection request works safely. For Discord, joining via a link is secure too. What guarantees can you have about these methods?
