Activate eco mode, it likely won't affect gaming performance much. A noticeable impact appears only with multi-core tasks.

Anandtech published a solid piece about power scaling, now accessible only via the archive link: https://web.archive.org/web/202504241946...0k-7950x/3

R9 performance should stay within an AIO range. At stock levels it’s quite straightforward to manage heat, perhaps increase fan speed slightly. Individual CCD components are also simple to cool down.

The system would power off if it detected unsafe conditions. Safe procedures are already in place to avoid harm.

Seek a steady fan setting, rather than the usual fixed speed or several set points, so fans operate quietly when idle and boost to targeted RPMs/percent as temperatures rise

This would likely work well for an AM5 setup. Fans should operate between 20-30% initially, increasing to 60% under load above 70°C, and reaching full speed at 95°C max temperature. The system should maintain cooling below 70°C by adjusting between 30% and 60% speeds.

Used a 7900x in 2022 prior to upgrading to a 7800x3D. No problems during Fractal Torrent with a basic Deepcool AK620 air cooler. Performance metrics showed mid to high 80s in Cinebench, 50s and 60s in games. Curve Optimizer -40 (ASRock exclusive) was the sole adjustment. System fans remained steady at around 40% PWM until reaching 85°C, after which they rose to 60%, keeping the whole setup quiet in games. The 7900x doesn’t require an AIO, though the case does. https://hwbot.org/benchmarks/cinebench_-...ns/5246190

AMD temperatures spike quickly, so aim for high performance as soon as one core hits elevated temps. CO-40 likely caused much lower temperatures in single or lightly threaded tasks, but not across all cores—higher energy use kept cores warmer overall.

Confirmed, I'm addressing your question directly. When properly installed in a well-ventilated enclosure, a 7900x can be effectively cooled both by air and quietly.
