How does moving in VR work?
Seriously thinking about getting an Index. However I've been watching Alyx vids and it seems like you need to aim where you want to go (and you teleport), there's no WASD-ish on the controllers?
Here are some important points to keep in mind:
Alyx is designed to work with Tele-locomotion by default, smoothly moving you between locations without causing motion sickness.
After roughly 15 hours of VR use, most players transition from teleportation to sliding movement, where the joystick or thumbpad moves you along the controller's direction (though head turns can still influence your path).
"WASD" functions similarly to a joystick or thumbpad, enabling teleportation or sliding actions. Rec Room offers a solid implementation, letting you switch between these modes quickly via the game menu.
VR games are increasingly providing various movement options. You can choose teleportation for those sensitive to motion sickness or opt for conventional ("sliding") movement if you prefer. The three latest Half-Life Alyx gameplay videos demonstrate both methods, with two featuring teleportation and this one not.
