I didn’t need to read the past So I quickly built a computer for my little brother (he’s 14 and knows basic tech). When we started the system, I checked the setup and saw only three RAM slots available. During Windows installation, my brother mentioned he didn’t press any extra buttons beyond the standard one. I wasn’t there to watch because I didn’t want to see Windows install, but I think he’d have chosen 32 or 64 bit anyway. My question is: Would a 32-bit system block more than 4GB of RAM or just use it, but still display 8GB available? Thanks for the unclear English.

It would only detect 4GB if the system was powered on at all.

32 GB will cap your RAM at 4 GB (about 3.5 GB) actually. If you have extra installed, you'll have to reinstall Windows using the 64-bit disk.

Windows 32-bit is limited to 4GB RAM, regardless of how much you add, it won’t accept more. It seems you didn’t pick which version to install, so you probably just got a 32-bit edition by mistake (unless your processor supports 64-bit).

It doesn't handle more than 4GB RAM. The output will likely display something like "Memory: 8GB (4GB usable)."

He wants to know if 32-bit Windows treats more than 4GB of RAM as just 4GB or if it actually uses the extra memory.

Your brother didn't opt for express installation; Windows lacks that feature during setup. Even though X86 and X64 editions are available on different discs, your key works across both versions. Just visit online, select the X64 edition, burn it, and install again.

They understood what they believed. They didn’t wish to restart without confirming. They’ll return with updates. Edit; file size capped at 3,42 GB.
