How do you typically configure your gaming experience?
It largely depends on your card’s capabilities and what you enjoy. I'm interested to know what configurations other users typically employ when playing games. With my Ryzen 7 2700 and RTX 2080, I typically maintain nearly all games at the highest settings on a 1080p display, averaging between 80 and 144 frames per second – which I consider satisfactory. Several individuals with comparable hardware favor medium settings to consistently achieve around 144 frames, particularly when playing games competitively.
My system consists of an Intel Core i7-8700K processor and a GeForce RTX 1080 graphics card, allowing me to play most games at maximum settings at a resolution of 1080p and some at 1440p. I’m satisfied as long as the frame rate remains at or above 60 frames per second, though some titles necessitate Vsync to prevent screen tearing. In my opinion, 144Hz monitors are most beneficial for competitive online first-person shooter games that can consistently achieve high frame rates without demanding top-tier hardware. There’s been excessive promotion surrounding these displays. However, considering my age of 60+, I don’t typically engage in multiplayer gaming anymore. My closest recent experience with online play was acquiring The Division 1, but I primarily enjoy it in a single-player fashion. It's a remarkably flawed game, to be honest.
I’ve observed some variation between 60 frames per second and 100 plus, though it’s not a major change. I purchased my 144Hz monitor at a discount last year, which is why I obtained it. And I completely concur that the initial Division was poorly conceived—the game felt incredibly challenging to play alone. They improved somewhat in that regard with Division 2, but it still presents a few difficulties at times.
Using a gaming PC with a Ryzen 5 2600 processor running at an overclocked frequency of 3.95 GHz and a graphics card—an MSI GTX 1660 TI ARMOR 6G running at 2070 MHz—I consistently achieve frame rates between 85 and 120 frames per second while playing modern games at a resolution of 1080p with all settings set to maximum.
The appropriate visual settings vary by game; if a system struggles to run smoothly at a lower quality setting before, then medium settings might suffice. However, if many games require medium quality to run adequately and slowly, it’s a sign that an upgrade is needed.
My computer has an Intel Core i7 4770k processor and a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, running at 1440p resolution. I aim to set all graphics options to the highest possible level, with exceptions for personal preferences such as turning off motion blur or other undesirable visual effects. Certain games require me to reduce settings, for example, I’m currently playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider and can't fully maximize it. I tend to prioritize effects like ambient occlusion and texture quality, while striving for equilibrium so I don’t need to lower or disable any settings. Since I don't play competitively, maintaining a steady 60 frames per second is satisfactory for me. Do you require this kind of response?
