You can choose between making recovery media like a CD or a dedicated USB drive. The install disk option lets you run the recovery process. If it's an OEM product, there should be a recovery partition available—just refer to your manual to locate it.

Press the Start button, choose the Picture of the Start button, then select All Programs, Accessories, and finally System Tools. 3. Launch NTBackup-RestoreUtility and proceed with the wizard’s guidance. If you need to recover a backup from a Windows XP machine saved on tape, you’ll have to use Windows Vista. Removable Storage Manager isn’t part of Windows 7 and is necessary for tape-based backups. To restore a backup from a Windows Vista machine, begin by opening Backup and Restore via the Start button, Picture of the Start button, Control Panel, System and Maintenance, then Backup and Restore. 2. Choose a different backup to restore from, and continue with the wizard. Administrator access is needed If asked for a password or confirmation, enter it or confirm your choice.
