First, I plug my Windows 10 desktop computer into the internet using an Ethernet cable going from one end to a small white box called eero that the ISP gave me. I have no idea what experts call this box, but it just says eero on it. Now I want both of my Windows 10 computers to talk to each other like ping or telnet. I heard about routers and bought a UISP EdgeRouter X because it's cheap and is a router. When the router got here, I don't know how to connect it (maybe you prefer "installing"). For now, I just want my first computer connected to the internet as usual with the router being in place. There is an Ethernet port on the router named eth0/PoE IN. Because of IN, I guess it means input into the network. So I plug this port into the white eero box that the ISP gave me. Then I plug my PC into a normal port of the router named eth1. Of course I also plug in the power adapter and reset the router with a pen. But my computer cannot connect to the internet. The above connection scheme is what I think is best right now. I also tried different ways to connect using other ports without success. So, I am lost. I read the Quick Start Guide but it gives no help. So here I ask. Please teach me how to use a router so that my first PC can get online like there was no router involved, and if you don't mind, please tell me how to connect my second PC to the router so they can talk to each other. PS, all I want is a wired connection. No wireless or wifi. Thank you.

You picked up the worst gear for your first time using it. The Ubiquiti Edge router is actually pretty cool, but it has too many settings and features that make it hard to set up even if you know a lot about networking. The EERO box probably just acts as a wifi router. How many ports does the EERO have? Some have one big internet port (WAN) and four small ones for your stuff (LAN). You plug all your devices into the LAN ports. But some only have one WAN and one LAN, so you need to add more ports using a simple switch. Honestly, I don't know where to even begin if I want to figure out how to configure a Ubiquiti box because I'm not sure what the starting settings are.

The EERO box has two holes that look like an Ethernet connection. One of them connects to a smaller box from my internet provider, which I think is a modem. The other one plugs into my computer. There are no other ports on the EERO box besides power. I guess the first one is for the wide area network (WAN) and the second one is for the local network (LAN), right? Thanks for letting me know the bad news. I don't even know if that router broke during the move. Maybe going to a nearby computer repair shop is my next step.

It's probably not broken, but maybe you just need to set it up right. You'll have to read the instructions and hope there are some simple examples somewhere. The best way is usually to buy a cheap 5-port gigabit switch around $20.

Is this your EERO device? eero - Finally, wifi that works Finally, WiFi that works eero.com bill001g is spot on. You can add more ethernet ports by connecting a switch. With something like this: Amazon.com: TP-Link 5 Port Gigabit Switch | Easy Smart Managed | Plug & Play | Limited Lifetime Protection | Desktop/Wall-Mount | Shielded Ports | Support QoS, Vlan, IGMP and Link Aggregation (TL-SG105E) : Electronics Amazon.com: TP-Link 5 Port Gigabit Switch | Easy Smart Managed | Plug & Play | Limited Lifetime Protection | Desktop/Wall-Mount | Shielded Ports | Support QoS, Vlan, IGMP and Link Aggregation (TL-SG105E) : Electronics www.amazon.com For basic home use, you don't need the additional device mentioned earlier.
