Please hold on! I purchased the original version, and Microsoft has stated that bought OEM copies can be reused if you have Windows 8 and reach out to them. Your concern is valid—how do I get in touch? If you’ve lost your Windows 8 key, there are tools available to extract it from your system. Thanks for your patience!

Call them up over the phone, and they will talk to you about it. There is software that can get your code, but I don't quite remember the name of it.

There is a tool available for free that generates a report of your computer, displaying the product key. Regarding reaching out to Microsoft, if your device connects to the internet when it starts up, you can contact them and possibly reuse the key.
