How do i open my router?
Hi! When I connect my Wi-Fi modem to the power source, the lights begin to flicker. I’m curious about what’s causing this issue and how to check it out. I thought it would be simple—just take off screws and antennas—but it doesn’t seem that straightforward. I have a photo showing a lock on the antennas, so I can’t remove them.
Opening it could expose the issue because it lets you see the internal components directly. Your photos aren’t clear enough; you’re just displaying a section of the router.
I considered using a multimeter to see if there were any shorts or a blown fuse.
The burnt-out fuse stops current flow, LEDs won’t flicker. A brief circuit might work, but first inspect the power source.
Already connected it to a bench PSU (12v 1A) yet it didn’t function.
Also overlooked was the fact that fuses can be somewhat unreliable, particularly in low-power models. Occasionally, a sudden surge in current causes the fuse to release energy before it fails, before reaching its heat threshold.
It seems unclear about opening a chassis, which isn't boosting my confidence as an electrical engineer. Most people think it's the status indicator. The router looked quite basic even when it first came out—if there are genuine issues beyond what looks like it, I’d just swap it for something better.
