How do I lower the voltage on my i7 9750h laptop?
Hello everyone, it's been a while! I just found out about undervolting and thought it might be worth trying, as it seems to carry only a small risk—just possibly a crash or occasional BSOD.
Laptop details:
- Name: Legion Y540-15IRH Laptop (Lenovo)
- Model: Type 81SX
- Machine Type: Model 81SX0057SC
- CPU: I7 9750H
- GPU: GTX 1660 TI 6GB
I've been using Throttlestop, and so far the results are promising. By adjusting the CPU core, cache, and Intel GPU settings in 'FIVR - FIVR Control' to -125 mV each, I've seen my CPU frequency rise from 3300 MHz to 3900 MHz. The temperature under load has also dropped from 93°C to 83°C—great progress!
Looking at the Cinebench results below, you can compare with my default setup (no undervolting) and my current attempt (undervolting). I'm still a beginner, so I hope you can help me push it even further.
Here are some screenshots from Throttlestop, Cinebench, and HWMonitor.
Note: Please skip the first image—it's my old configuration with Speedshift enabled on 128. I've turned it off now because it seems to cause issues with MHz readings per core.
Thanks for your support!
