How do I know if my computer is working right?
Hey guys, I got a Ryzen 5 1500X and a GTX 1060 with 32GB of RAM. I'm having trouble playing some games lately. For example, Battlefield 2077 runs very slowly on low settings, giving me way fewer than 50 frames per second. Fortnite is also acting up after the latest update because it can't hold steady at low graphics levels. Even though my parts are pretty cheap right now, I think they should be doing better. Is there a way to check if something is slowing things down? Thanks!
Your older computer with four cores might have a hard time playing modern games. Check out userbenchmark.com and try that test yourself. You can see the results there if you want, but just go ahead and do it now.
Check out these links for the results and parts list. I've been using this PC since 2017, just added more RAM from 8gb up to 32gb. It's time to build something new though. Can I reuse any pieces like the RAM, hard drive, or fans? Will I need a new power supply if I switch to a Ryzen 7 and a 3070 graphics card?
Close everything else that's running so you don't see the test taking too long. It looks like 60% of your memory is being used on the side. Even if you open a browser or music app right now, those games will still be using up RAM. So the test gives an unfair picture showing that your computer isn't actually busy when it's just sitting in the background.
Put RAM into slots A2 and B2. Turn on the XMP setting. That 60% background usage is crazy! Test the RAM again.
Here is a new test link: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/57245589 . I turned on XMP settings and changed my RAM sticks. I can't run faster than 2666 MHz right now. I tried two times, but the computer works fine while my screens and other stuff stay dark. It was only after resetting my motherboard that everything started working again. I have no idea where that 13% CPU usage is coming from. When I turned on my PC for the test, there were no windows open in the background.
Yeah, I managed to turn on XMP mode, but I could only raise my RAM speed to 2666. When I tried pushing it up to 2900 twice, my computer wouldn't even start. I had to reset my BIOS settings to get things working again. Here is the link to the new test run with no browser open: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/57245589 This was the fresh test without any apps running in the background.
