I was misled into setting up Windows 10 during a "reserve a copy" process. Realizing many of my preferred programs wouldn’t work on it, I chose to revert. I searched for a tutorial but found the required files missing. Eventually, I tried restarting with my Windows 7 disc and used the advanced setup option that would erase everything (which was fine). The system reported my SSD was split into four partitions, none of which supported the OS. Please assist—I just need my Windows 7 restored; I’m open to wiping everything.

Navigate to Update and Recovery, select recovery, and you’ll find an option to return to Windows 7. If you removed the Windows.old directory, you’ll need to perform a fresh installation of Windows 7.

You’re likely going to need to fully organize your storage by removing all partitions for a clean drive.

That's exactly what I tried. Unless when you say clean install you mean something different? And the weird thing is that I never purposefully deleted that folder.

You should follow a clear process to handle the task. Be cautious, as incorrect steps could damage your drive. Always back up important data before making changes.

Refresh everything by clearing all your storage devices and performing a USB setup of Windows, then install Windows 7. Another issue I had is some programs failing to launch even after installation; adjusting the compatibility settings in Properties might resolve it.

It’s unlikely to succeed. Clearing all partitions and formatting the one left should resolve the issue.

Many small details seem to be building up. However, the main concern is the driver I use to link my Xbox 360 controller to my computer, which doesn’t support Windows 10. I appreciate this approach and would love some advice on how to erase my drive. Any suggestions?

Performing a hard drive wipe is most effective during installation. Once you begin the setup, you’ll usually have a choice between upgrading or doing a custom install. If you pick the custom option, remove all partitions—typically just the System Reserved and a bigger one. You can choose the new volume, and Windows will handle the rest automatically.

Before proceeding, consider the current state: your mechanical drive has no files yet. Think carefully before removing any partitions.
