How do I find why my Ethernet connection is acting up?
I have 4 desks that are not connected to my switch. I found out that one desk has a broken wire on cable #1. I want to check how the RJ45 connector is set up in my cubicle and what it looks like when it goes into the back of the patch panel. Is wire #1 clearly broken? Any other tips or places I should look, or what tests do I need to run? I used this cable probe for 28 dollars. It only had one test that told me which wire was bad. The manual says there are four tests total, but two of them are for phones and the Ethernet ones show the same info in two different ways. That's pretty cool. Even though I am thankful to have found out this much, it makes me wonder if a more expensive probe would give me more details? Maybe my top price point is now around 120 dollars? If so, it would be nice if the manual was written well and for people who are not trained Network Technicians. "Do this, find that out, and fix it." Can you help me find resources to make sure that works too? I need a recipe book! If I can't fix it myself, they will pay someone else to do it. It's better to just get it fixed than wait for the cost to go up later. Getting one working now will give me more time to finish the rest of them as long as we can all get done by early next week. Thanks so much!
