On Windows 10 or 11, pressing Win+Shift+S displays a basic screen with a widget in the center. Choose the video recording option, then drag the window across the screen or desired area. Start the recording when prompted.

OBS is the most commonly used program for this. If you're using Nvidia, shadowplay works well; I believe AMD has a similar version but its name is unclear.
