I selected an awkward username long ago, and it’s now permanently attached to my profile because account names are immutable after creation. Despite this, I've altered my display name, but it’s still tied to the original name established in 2014. I'm considering creating a new account solely to eliminate this undesirable username. Are there any workarounds that would allow me to preserve my game progress?

Probably not, but Steam Support is the only entity capable of addressing issues related to Steam accounts.
