How can I verify if my PSU is delivering sufficient power to the entire system?
I recently changed my CPU from a Ryzen 7 3700X to a Ryzen 9 5900XT.
I’ve started observing some changes in my PC that previously functioned well before the upgrade.
The biggest concern is my USB extension cable (1.5m or 2m) that connects my PC to the desk for controller use, especially when preparing for Monster Hunter Wilds Beta.
I noticed my controller would power on, connect, and work for about 10 seconds before disconnecting, then reconnecting again in a loop. The controller was fully charged when I plugged it into the wall overnight before use.
Another issue I reported earlier was that one of my SSDs stopped functioning after turning off the PC overnight. In the morning, after a reset, everything worked normally.
This has happened again recently when I arrived home: the taskbar wouldn’t load and Windows Explorer displayed an error. A reset seemed to fix it.
I’m aware my PSU is 6–8 years old, and I don’t know if that’s a problem. I still dust my PC’s interior every 3–4 months using an electronic air cleaner during CPU replacement.
I’m wondering if there’s a program that can automatically detect the power consumption I’m using?
Here are my PC specifications:
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570S Gaming X
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT
CPU cooler: AIO 240mm – cooler master without LED
GPU: NVIDIA 3080 TI (Gigabyte or MSI)
RAM: 32GB DDR4
Storage:
C: Sammsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB
D: Sammsung SSD 980 PRO 1TB
E: Sammsung SSD 870 QVO 1TB
PSU: Corsair 850W (estimated)
Chassis: Ti (model unknown, two 280mm fans front)
OS: Windows 10
Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G7 32" (x2)
Based on your message, it seems the PSU is probably the culprit.
It’s likely it has reached its End of Life.
You might check its power consumption with a Kill-a-Watt device.
If you own a multimeter and are familiar with its use, you can assess the PSU.

This isn’t a complete test since the PSU isn’t operating at reduced load. But any readings outside the normal range suggest a problem with the PSU.
What BIOS version is installed?
Brand and model details?
Which specific model are you referring to? Corsair offers many 850W models.
Remove the side panel to reveal the label on the pSU. Capture a photo of it and share it here.
