How can I retrieve the deleted CapCut video export when I have the raw footage and a file backup?
Hello.
I recently created a video using CapCut which took a significant amount of time. After finishing, I removed the edited file and the video from my backup drive to free up space. Could the edits still be stored so I could use the original footage and re-export the video with the old edits? Is it possible that the changes were saved on my backup drive and only the source files need to be exported? Thank you for your time.
Usually removing a file preserves the original information while marking the storage area as free. Any additional data stored later might then overwrite that space.
First and most importantly, avoid saving anything more to the backup drive. Even if it seems too late, trying to recover the footage won’t result in loss.
A potential solution could be using Recuva.

Alternatively, consider using CapCut—it might have created backup copies automatically.
It’s a bit uncertain, but it’s worth trying.
I have the original clips, aiming to restore the edits and redo the visuals.
The issue lies not in the original files, but in the changes I've applied. Since I've backed up everything, should I still be able to restore those edits?
I don’t know if the file format affects the recovery of edits. Usually, the initial file is stored in a certain way and changes are applied to a duplicate. Only after that is the edited version saved during the process. The original document isn’t replaced unless you explicitly save it again with the new content. If the editing application or another program saved the updated files to a backup location, they should appear there too. The revised files might appear in a particular file type that marks them as CapCut, or they could be stored at a specific drive and folder path—either default or customized. I’m hoping the edits were saved automatically or prompted to do so, and they should show up in the correct location.
