how bad can damage from power outage be?
Hey everyone, just wanted to share what happened after I powered down my PC. Right when it shut off, the power cut came down like a storm in seconds. It came back on right away, which is pretty wild. I’m worried because it was still plugged in, and if something heavy hit it, it could have caused damage inside. If anything goes wrong after the outage, could I see signs of trouble—like my graphics card not working or the system not booting? Or could it be completely silent with no visible issues? I’ve got a 2080S with a 3600x, Corsair CX PSU, 1TB HDD, 240GB SSD, ASUS TUF B450M motherboard, and 16GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RAM. I’m not sure if a core getting fried would show up right away or if it’d be subtle.
Use a surge protector to safeguard the PSU from potential damage. It will help absorb any voltage spikes.
I possess one, though it's quite inexpensive, which is why I become anxious during this situation.
No, this wasn't the same post before. It was a different message.
i don't know for sure, but my computers have been on surge protectors (not amazing expensive ones) and we got power outages maybe once a month. Usually some idiot drives into a transformer somewhere nearby and takes out the whole neighborhood. So far, no damage that I can perceive.
This gadget might work for some people. But you may also need a surge protector such as an Isobar Ultra or a similar device to ensure safety. Let me know if you'd like more details!
A powerful Jesus figure for $200? Maybe invest in a large UPS system instead. Keep operating during outages—bigger is definitely better. Just another thought.
