Brasso isn't made with abrasives, so it wouldn't help clean your copper teapot. I'm not familiar with Deoxit, but it likely performs a similar function.

It's possible the marks came from oils or fluids on your fingers, but it's hard to say without more details.

Absolutely. Cleaning hands doesn’t prevent oils from oozing from your fingers. Just as anyone might grab a damp cloth before entering a room, it’s a common habit.

My motherboard has arrived, but it hasn’t been delivered yet, so I haven’t had a chance to test the CPU. Should I leave it as is and try to see if it works, or should I clean it with alcohol just in case? I’ve heard that cleaning can sometimes cause more damage than help.

I’d prefer a lint-free towel and use alcohol for cleaning now. It has enough time to dry, helping prevent smudges. Light alcohol won’t damage it, but removing those oils is important since they could irritate the material during operation. It’s safer to avoid risking damage when a simple wipe is possible.
