How about boosting my CPU and GPU performance?
Hey everyone, as mentioned in the titles, I’m trying to overclock my CPU and GPU. To be honest, I’m not very experienced with software, but hardware is definitely better for me. For instance, I always thought that a CPU labeled with “K” means it’s already overclocked. But I never realized you have to do it yourself, which means this CPU should handle the extra load.
My friend told me about overclocking and how it can boost performance by more than 10 frames per second. But my main concern is the risks—could it damage my whole PC? Also, can I overclock my GPU too? Thanks for your help!
Note: My PC is currently in a case-free setup, just placed inside a card box that came with the motherboard. Temperatures stay low, usually between 65-70°C.

Power supply: Cougar 550W
CPU fan: Corsair Dual
Other fans seem to be slower or possibly faulty.
RAM: 16 GB
K series are "unlocked", not "overclocked".

It depends on your motherboard which options you have for modifying the CPU. You should use a Z series board. Listing your CPU cooler can be useful, but you might not have much flexibility depending on its type. A 6th generation chip that's overclocked can consume around 150W. The GPU can be overclocked using MSI Afterburner, as long as you keep an eye on temperatures; Nvidia sets quite strict limits for newer cards. I remember when I had a GTX980, there wasn't much room for overclocking either. Choose a standard benchmark like Unigine Valley or 3D Mark Firestrike, set the power limit to maximum, gradually increase the GPU clock and then separately the memory clock, and test together to discover the most stable setting. If it crashes, it's a sign to reduce the intensity.

Not aiming for 10+ frames per second, but about a 10% increase. So if you're at 30fps before, you'd reach around 33fps afterward. Unlikely to happen.

The CPU is already at around 4.2Ghz and could easily reach 4.5 or 4.6Ghz with a slight adjustment in core voltage, giving about a 7% boost.
Using the cooler shouldn't push the voltage beyond 1.35V, otherwise temperature issues may arise before that point.
The VIN/VInput settings might also need a small increase, perhaps from 2.0 to around 2.1.
