I purchased Hot Spot Shield using a Linus promo code a few months back. The 3.41 update offered three basic settings: off, proxy without encryption, and proxy with encryption. Encryption sometimes caused issues with certain sites and processing, so using a proxy without encryption was often helpful. However, the newly released 3.42 version only provides on/off protection. It seems the lack of a proxy option is disappointing, especially since it might affect performance. I wonder if there’s a reason for this change or what users are experiencing.

The only positive aspect of Hot Spot Shield is its free trial. The real product falls short in comparison to many competitors like PrivateInternetAccess.

Many of the sites I rely on stop functioning when Hotspot Shield is active, which is frustrating, but it also prevents my ISP from modifying my downloads.
