Horrible CSGO performance
Horrible CSGO performance
Hi everyone
I've been experiencing really poor performance in CSGO.
My frame rate is between 70 and 150 FPS, depending on the map, and it changes a lot based on direction.
Even when I set everything to low, I often drop to around 70 frames.
With my current specs I think I should be able to reach at least 150 FPS to make use of my monitor properly.
My hardware is:
CPU: i7-4790k (not overclocked)
Motherboard: MSI z97 Gaming 7
RAM: 16GB DDR3 at 2400MHz
GPU: EVGA 1070TI
My monitor is an Acer xz350cu, running 2560x1080 at 144Hz.
The game is installed on an SSD and runs on a Corsair 860i power supply.
I'm using a fully updated Windows 10 with all drivers up to date.
The problem hasn't started recently, but I haven't played CSGO much lately, so it didn’t affect me much. Everything else seems stable at higher frame rates.
Do you have any suggestions about what could be causing this issue?
The driver uninstaller for version 18015 was recently released by Wagnard Soft.
Are there any programs operating in the background consuming a lot of CPU resources? I discovered some applications, such as Razer Cortex, keeping my CPU usage at full capacity. Based on my experience, these Razer tools have achieved similar results on my machine.
I recommend starting by adhering to the guidelines provided by BananaGaming on YouTube. In his video, he explains the optimal configurations for your NVIDIA control panel, which significantly improves FPS. He is well-informed about performance optimization in CSGO.
It would be wise to verify that the command "cl_forcepreload" is configured to "0" within your settings file. John Mcdonald verified this on Twitter, stating it should remain at zero. While it may have provided a minor FPS increase when set to one, you can experiment with it. Generally, setting it to zero loads the entire map into memory before entering the server, which typically boosts performance. However, if it remains at one, the result might differ. He mentioned in conversation with him on Twitter that it should always stay at zero, but I’m not sure. Trying it could help you determine what works best for you.
Additionally, check whether the "fps_max" setting is different from the default 300. If it’s lower, consider raising it to 300.
You might also want to reduce the shadow quality in CSGO settings to a low level, as higher shadows can hinder FPS.
Ensure that FXAA Anti Aliasing is disabled in the CSGO video settings, since it tends to lower FPS.
For those interested in customizing further, there’s a video by the same creator, "BananaGaming," where he walks through creating your own configuration file.
Other suggestions include disabling background apps in Windows if they’re not necessary, enabling High Performance mode under Power Options, and adjusting your game resolution for better FPS. Adding "-refresh 144" to your settings will ensure the game runs at 144Hz.
If you need further assistance, feel free to reply and I’ll do my best to help.
