I'm trying to help a friend who just got a new job and is running into issues getting the work laptop hooked up to her home network. Here are the constraints:
The laptop does not have wifi
As part of the rules of behavior she signed, enabling wifi or adding a wifi device is prohibited
The ISP router is 3 rooms away from where the home office is
She lives in a rental and drilling through walls is prohibited
Is there some solution that allows for an encrypted connection with her wifi router that has an ethernet connection for the laptop to connect??

Powerline network can be a viable option; you'll need to connect one end of the router to a cable in that area and the other end in the room where the laptop is located, with a cable linking them both.

Take it seriously and obtain a lengthy ethernet cable from your laptop to the router. Pay attention to careful cable organization and use color coding for the Cat5e, ensuring it remains hidden.

Be aware that occasionally you might encounter signal problems due to noise, and it seems the outlets not being on the same circuit could affect their performance.
