Hitron CGN3 is designed for gigabit internet connections.
Hey everyone, I own an old Rogers internet package that claims unlimited downloads, but the gigabit speed option costs the same as what I’m paying now. I recently bought a Hitron CGN3 instead of renting one. I didn’t do much research on it. The Wi-Fi connection to our Sony X900F works fine, though Netflix sometimes lags. Would using this CGN3 modem with a router be suitable for stable Wi-Fi? Should I consider getting another modem? Also, does anyone in Ottawa experience good speeds with the Rogers gigabit plan? Thanks.
It's not a regular modem, it's a gateway device in one unit. Usually these aren't seen favorably since they often aren't the best. Separate equipment is preferable. It looks like a 24x8 gateway, which means it won't support gigabit speeds. For gigabit performance, you'll need a Docsis 3.1 modem from most cable ISPs.
You should check the options carefully. ISP modems can work, but their quality varies. Consider other choices for better performance.
