I don't remember Windows updates ever needing payment like Apple did with early OSX releases. It's strange that the same group pushing for Windows 11 requirements is the same ones who upgrade when new GPU generations arrive. Have you noticed how many people with 4000 series GPUs are asking about moving to 5000? Or those on Zen4 wanting Zen5? That’s unrelated to the OS you pick, but fine... Windows and MacOS have much friendlier communities that don’t judge or restrict like some Linux groups do. That’s a plus. I mean, Windows doesn’t have a clock that turns it off at bedtime, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at with “use as long as you want.” And if I need tools to make Windows 11 look like Vista or Mac OS X 10.1, they exist. If I want to run BonziBuddy, just tell Windows to run as admin and now I can question my choices too.

I've spent years working with desktop Linux, juggling its quirks and compromises. It's never been smooth—always balancing accessibility for everyday users with the flexibility for tech enthusiasts who love picking and choosing from multiple libraries that do similar things. That’s why "Year of the Linux Desktop" became a joke.

Hello! Thanks a lot for your response. I'm glad you're here—Linux really fits what I need, especially with all its tools. Feel free to pick your favorite flavor; it's a great term for the variety many Linux distributions offer. After trying out several distros, I've settled on EndeavourOS. Wishing you all the best!

They're going to be there soon... I believe it's around twenty dollars for the security patches. Since I haven't updated my Windows 10 in a while, it's not too much of an issue for me. See you on Windows 12!
