Hey there! Just got a Ryzen 5900x with an Asus Dark Hero X570 and 32GB of 3200MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum (4x8GB). After setting it up, I left the BIOS alone except for enabling DOCP. I updated the drivers on the Asus site. At idle it’s around 45°C, but it jumps to 78-80°C when a game starts. Probably nothing I missed. Also, I didn’t reinstall Windows and moved my 500GB and 1TB M.2 drives to the new board. Used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut with the spread method and a Corsair iCue Cappelix AIO triple fan for cooling. Any advice?

These are the best temperatures for a 5900X under AIO water loop with XMP active. Some voltages on auto mode boost settings like the on-chip SOC voltage, which raises heat—exactly why the warning appeared when you used it.

Water-cooling paste from the water blocks is custom-made. Ryzen tends to overheat, and I noticed this a year ago too. I own the 3800X. Recently, I’ve been doing some adjustments which have brought it down to 57 degrees, usually around 45-50 during idle.

I noticed the specs you mentioned. Before this, I had a 3700x with a B550-F, which idled around 32°C and rose to about 63°C during gaming. That’s a significant improvement.

I laid out all my chips, particularly the ones without a lid. That means you're in good shape. Just a thin coating would suffice. The bulk of the power comes from the transistor count. 5900X equals about 19 billion transistors. FX-55 single core, FX-8350 at 1200 million, i7 8700K with 3 billion.

Curiously, are we looking at the same AIO or did you transition from air to water? It's worth mentioning that the 5700x consumes more power than the 3700x yet shares the same TDP as mine. During Folding Month and the COVID Folding event (probably), I upgraded my CPU to the 90s... I should have noted that thermal paste is just one part of cooling; if your solution can't move heat as quickly as the paste does, it may lead to a bottleneck in heat dissipation.

If the cooler had been a few years old, it might be caused by a small leak or evaporation. As long as you purchased your grizzly from a trustworthy source—like Amazon or a physical store—and not from an unreliable seller, you probably got a genuine product. If you think it could be fake, contact the seller and share the details. Regarding spreading, I haven’t used my paste before, so I’m unaware of any issues. If too much is applied and pressure is applied, it would leak noticeably, or with heat it might ooze out. Both cases need cleaning, but they’re similar in that you’d likely damage your equipment. For better performance, a larger cooler would be necessary to manage the heat effectively.

During testing, I observed frame reduction. I’m using the BIOS that came with the board (version 3003). There’s an update for 3501, but it’s still in beta, so I’m not fully confident about it. I simply plugged and played without making any adjustments.
