Hey everyone, someone's got a 5900x overclocked at 1.5V and I need a solid base to figure out the best power/performance balance for their chip.

Activate PBO2 and lower the voltage. On my 5900X I achieve roughly 4.625 cores across, with single or dual cores exceeding 5GHz when required. Refer to the tutorial for details.

To achieve the best results with the Watts unit, it draws around 4GHz all Core for 1,069 V (great) while remaining stable. It's also the most power-efficient option based on my tests.

Thanks in advance, but I've already seen this before and it feels a bit off from what I meant. I plan to run it with PBO2 and AMD RM to find out what fits better.

What are you aiming for? Any other request restricts the capabilities of your processor.

Essentially, overclocking involves understanding where your chip sits on the performance spectrum—from modest to exceptional. No one else can pinpoint this for you. It requires patience to fine-tune the settings just right; my 10700k needed roughly 1.5 weeks to reach its optimal speed, followed by 9900k (about the same), then 8700k, and so on down to lower voltages. I’m not very familiar with AMD’s behavior under different voltage settings, but generally, starting at stock voltages and gradually reducing them helps. If stability issues arise, you can either increase the voltage or adjust the clock speeds. Soon you’ll get a clearer picture of your chip’s capabilities and can make more informed adjustments. It’s a process that often involves several weeks of trial, watching videos, and testing for consistency. Most learners find it helpful to start with some research and then experiment based on what they discover.

Absolutely, I understand needing a solid foundation. I’ll gather insights using various resources to pinpoint the optimal configuration. While I have experience with the 3600, integrating the new 5900 along with Moba, CPU, cooler, and RAM settings will require careful tuning. This effort is worthwhile for gaming performance and long-term productivity.

As others mentioned, you already have your initial setup. Enabling PBO2 and undervolting should yield the optimal outcome. Unless you prefer sacrificing single-thread performance for a straightforward all-core frequency lock at around 4.7 or 8—something that might be risky unless you're heavily using the CPU for continuous tasks. Also, make sure your cooling system is solid; it’s not overly complicated.

I plan to try it next year and see what I can achieve with all the help from contributors. It’ll be nice with a Noctura U12A Chromax Black.
