I've got an i7-14700K with a BIOS update to 1503 on my STRIX Z790-E Gaming WiFi II. According to HWiNFO, the new microcode version 129 isn't functioning properly. After switching from the old UEFI (1301) to BIOS Default and completing the update, I noticed the system warned me to press F5 before making changes. Once I did that, the boot process worked, but during Cinebench tests I saw cores exceeding the voltage limits set by the updated microcode. Specifically, one core reached a peak voltage of 1.556V and another hit 1.565V, with Vcore peaks at 1.492V and 1.518V respectively. Even after restarting in BIOS and running another test, the limits weren't met—peak VID stayed below 1.500V for most of the run, only rising slightly in the final minutes. Interestingly, during Cinebench, the peak VID remained under 1.500V for the first 20 minutes, but climbed noticeably after about ten minutes. The BIOS settings remain at Intel Default with Performance mode, PL1/PL2 at 253W and ICCMax set to 307A, same as before. I'm using LL4 auto optimization, MCE is off, SVID auto, and XMP disabled. What could be causing this issue?
I really don’t rely on YouTube for this kind of information. Just to be clear, avoid throttle stops or XTU—they’re not good. Here’s the note: turn off all CEP-related features and aim for a BIOS mode around 3.0. Try Linpack Extreme and OCCT for testing.
