High VID during overclocking 6700k at 4.5GHz
Hi, I have a 6700k and a gigabyte ga-z170x gaming 5 motherboard. I've managed to keep the overclock stable at 4.5 GHz with core voltage at 1.32V and CPU loadline calibration set to high (the other settings are auto or standard). However, in HWMonitor I see the CPU VCORE at 1.3V average and a max of 1.32V, while the VID is around 1.35V with peaks reaching 1.402V. Is this normal or should I adjust something? I also have a hyper 212 evo cooler and my temperatures are around 70°C when running x264.
it's got to be there somewhere. based on what i understand, that is the only configuration that lets vid adjust itself automatically. i'm not familiar with the board's bios layout. keep checking. it could offer an "Fixed" choice instead of "Auto".
this shouldn't be altering. ensure adaptive voltage is disabled in your bios.

my mobo has "vcore adaptive voltage" enabled as well. also turn off "CPU OC Fixed Mode," which turns off "Intel Speedstep" and "Intel Turbo Boost." if your board lacks OC fixed mode, just disable the intel settings individually.
