Hey there, I built my first PC recently with a 7800X3D chipset. I wanted top-tier components and spent a bit more than usual. The NOCTUA D15 Black caught my eye, but I noticed it gets quite hot during gaming and testing on Cinebench. A Reddit user suggested checking temps right after assembly to catch any issues early. They mentioned that when I tested at full load in Cinebench, my temps hit 82°C, while gaming stayed between 75-80°C. That’s a pretty high reading. With the best CPU cooler you can buy, are these numbers normal? Or should I be concerned?

You're using the same cooler on a 2700X and, given its age and lower efficiency, you typically reach around 70°C during intense gaming. Your custom fan curve prioritizes cooling performance over quiet operation. Regarding your case, what kind are you using—does it have good airflow or any ventilation features?

82 is perfectly acceptable for Cinebench; it seems reasonable given my expectation of a high 80s performance.

Sure thing. Reaching 78°C in games isn't uncommon, though it's rare. My typical temps are around 68-78°C, which might be a bit too high for a premium cooler—maybe a more affordable option would suit better.

Higher temperatures at 7800X3D will occur compared to non-Vcache components because the cache is layered above them. Still, 80°C should be acceptable for gaming.

You're probably overthinking it, but that heat level is totally okay for gaming. Anything above the 90s might cause problems. Newer chips like the 7800X3D manage those temps easily. Just relax and enjoy!

Completely typical. Only unusual if the game demands intense processing power, which is rare but possible. Alternatively, inadequate cooling or poor ventilation in a warm setting could be the issue. I haven’t observed my 7800x3D running consistently above 65% in most titles. Opinions based on available specs.

I just verified my temperatures again using RTSS. I ran three games—GTA 5, Battlefield 6, and more—and averaged around 70-73°C. My Lian Li 216 has stock fans, and the room temperature is about 23°C.
