I turned on pbo with all limits disabled and adjusted the magnitude to -25 across all cores (slow mode, I understand). It performs well around 170W at 80°C on the hottest sensor after 30 minutes using cb r23. However, it sometimes throttles thermally (HTC), cutting power to about 100W, which greatly affects the cb score. At first it drops to around 21k, then to 17k. The motherboard is an ASRock B450 Steel Legend. Also, the clock speed decreases unexpectedly over time.
It’s unlikely the CPU is the issue; the motherboard’s VRM might be throttling it. This processor seems designed for high power consumption on that board. It’s just a 4+2 layout.
It's likely the VRM is the issue. The B450 Steel Legend appears on the old tier list as D Tier, indicating it could only reach up to a 5800X. Since you've unlocked higher limits on your 5900X, the VRMs are probably overwhelmed. I suggest sticking to undervolting and using it to preserve performance while reducing CPU power limits. Try settings like PPT 125, TDC 75, EDC 120 to check clock stability after an hour of Cinebench. If needed, lower to PPT 107, TDC 65, EDC 105 if the board struggles.
You instructed the motherboard to allow the CPU to be pushed further down in the voltage range. The lower the voltage setting, the more pressure it applies until the CPU runs out of energy. Remember, this processor supports around 265 watts in package form and about 260 watts at peak performance. It will work hard to achieve single-core speeds and will use whatever resources are available.
I applied Ryzen Master optimization and performance stayed consistent at 142 watts without dropping as quickly. Maintained about 20500 points until the final 2 minutes and 30 seconds when it fell to 18k for an unknown reason. Temperature was around 73°C.
