Hello there! I recently changed my i5-9400F to a Ryzen 5 3600. Since I needed more processing power for work, content creation, and gaming, I sold my old CPU and bundle for about $200 and bought a new R5 3600 for roughly $250 at a nearby shop. Here are the details: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (with Wraith Stealth cooler), Gigabyte B450I Aorus Pro Wi-Fi Red Devil, RX 570 4GB/16GB DDR4 at 2666MHz, Crucial 250GB SATA SSD, 2TB WD Purple HDD, Seasonic SII 520W power supply. Everything worked well during setup, but temperatures spiked to 60-65°C at idle and jumped to 80-85°C under load (like playing AC - Odyssey). I tried several fixes: changing the cooler, updating BIOS, installing new drivers, using Ryzen Power Saver settings, and boosting fan speeds. The case temps are around 28-32°C, but I added four fans from my old build to handle heat. My i5 managed 40°C idle and 60-65°C under load with the stock cooler. I disabled PBO/AutoOC and CoreBoost in BIOS, but the CPU still ran at 3.6GHz with high temps (55°C idle, 90°C synthetic). If this is typical, do you know anyone else faced similar issues? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Unusual result possibly due to incorrect application of thermal paste or insufficient cooling system tightening.

You should anticipate needing a minimum of Hyper-212 Turbo. This will let you run PBO continuously throughout the day. Also, keep in mind that the RAM is quite slow and can become a major limitation for Ryzen processors. You’ll likely need at least 3200MHz or higher.

It's been a challenge trying to reposition the cooler several times without success. You're right to question the amount of thermal paste being used—just using the original cooler may affect performance.

it should remain with thermal paste applied. my setup involves a 2600x stock cooler. at idle it operated between 40-50°C, under stress test it reached 80-90°C (PBO enabled). I replaced it with an aftermarket model (Gelid Phantom) and now idle temps sit at 30-40°C, stress tests at 60-70°C. it never hit thermal throttling, even with the stock cooler during high-stress runs. likely something is misconfigured in your system. consider replacing the stock cooler with a quality thermal paste, apply just a pea-sized amount of the new one on the CPU, then reinstall the stock cooler to test.

Always remove the old thermal paste and put on fresh one when reinstalling or taking it out

I simply took out and put it back in again. Thanks for your feedback! However, I wouldn’t want to try adjusting the thermal paste on the original cooler since I’m unsure it will help. Buying a aftermarket version would be a far better choice. Got it? Haha!

It's a big issue, buddy. If you take out the heatsink and put it back without fully cleaning and reapplying fresh thermal paste, you'll likely see temperatures rise by 10 to 20 degrees because of air gaps and other problems.
