High-speed memory that pairs well with Crucial Ballistix
Hello everyone, I recently upgraded my PC two years ago with 16 GB of RAM, specifically the Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600 CL16 model. It works well with my 5600X and matches my black-and-white aesthetic. Now I need more memory, so I purchased another identical kit but couldn’t locate it anywhere in the EU. The situation is tricky—this exact RAM isn’t available locally. What should I do? Should I look for alternatives that are similar, opt for something faster, or replace everything completely? I understand mixing RAM isn’t ideal, but I’d like some guidance.
You could potentially purchase some of the same RAM modules. Longevity is often not an issue with RAM, as several companies provide lifetime warranties. However, locating your exact model can be challenging and might require mixing different parts. Still, I wouldn't overthink it much—missing out on M&M shouldn't significantly impact performance if you can match the kits (based on my experience with DDR3 and 4). Selling your current RAM and investing in a larger one would likely be the most secure choice, though it would demand more effort from you.
Combining wont always lead to BSODs or crashes, though the more premium the memory, the greater the chance. Pairing top-tier RAM with lower-end RAM shouldn't typically cause issues since, after memory training, the motherboard will prioritize the faster stick and ignore the slower one. Still, it's wise to use matching RAM—definitely true. For maximum stability, opt for a kit with four sticks, as they've been tested together during production.
In theory it could be, but I'm using a machine with mixed RAM right now and it feels quite bad. Programs often stop unexpectedly or fail, and crashes are uncommon but possible. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.
I frequently rely on mixed kits, adjusting speeds and timings in the BIOS to ensure everything functions perfectly. These kits often require some fine-tuning, though I haven’t encountered any incompatibility issues. Over the past few years, I’ve used more than ten different kits.
