I'm changing parts of my build and need some RAM options. I'm unsure if a 3600 with a Ryzen 3rd gen is better or if a 3200/3000 kit with OC would work. I've been checking out kits like G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB 3200, which have good reviews and seem like solid value. I plan to pair this with a GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Elite, expecting decent OC potential for the RAM.

Activating XMP is essentially a performance boost. A 3200 MHz processor is verified by the maker to run smoothly at 3200 with a stable 1.35V. You might push it up to 3600, though higher voltages can bring challenges like increased heat and tighter timing. A 3600 MHz rating is locked in for 3600 at that voltage. Ryzen chips perform best with quick RAM; the ideal combo is a 3600c16 or 3600c14 package. The c14 models are costly and often unnecessary. The c16 version is more affordable sometimes (about 10% pricier than a 3200c16) and can boost performance by roughly 10%. I’d keep the upgrade under 10% unless you’re looking for cheaper 3200c14 or c15 options that still deliver solid speed.

I don't agree with the claim that manufacturers ensure guaranteed frequencies. Overclocking isn't reliable until you exceed their specified limits.

Ddr4 base speed is 2133 MHz. Ryzen's base memory controller rate is 2933 MHz. Frequencies exceeding 2933 are regarded as overclocking.
