Hey. Long story short: my attempts at RAM/CPU overclock an 2 months ago ended up in constant WHEA BSODs and i think the CPU (got it in early december) is faulty. I want your help/ideas to test what was the issue and if its RMA worthy so far i updated chipset drivers, removed CMOS for 5 minutes,reaseated RAM and flashed latest bios + load optimized deafults What i want to do is not touching RAM/Infinity fabric (its stock 1067/1067) and just toy with PBO curve. I should not get any WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR:Bus/Interconnect Error unless CPU memory controller/memory itself is faulty right ? Specs:Ryzen R9 5900x RAM:F4-3600C16D-32GTZN (b-die) MB:MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI PSU:Seasonic Focus PX,850W Platinum Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
The infinity fabric (FCLK) connects to the RAM frequency. 1067MHz isn't standard unless you're using 2133MHz RAM. The default is around 1800MHz, but it often reaches 1933-2000MHz depending on the model. It automatically lowers its speed because you're still using JEDEC RAM without XMP enabled. You shouldn't encounter crashes by just turning off XMP alone.
No issues detected with PBO disabled. When I examine the PBO curve, I encounter WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR: Bus/Interconnect Error on Processor APIC ID 24/25/26/27. Even without interacting and undervolting cores on other CCDs, I achieved 3800/1900 CL16 (about 57ns in AIDA) for three weeks without any WHEA errors. (but PBO disabled)
I understand your point now. You're correct that 1066/2133 is the standard setting. I've heard some people struggle to reach even 1800fps. Overclocking can be tricky, especially with Ryzen, and results aren't always reliable. Intel tends to perform more consistently in terms of core quality, while AMD can be unpredictable.
