High-quality wired-only router solution
Hello everyone, I currently own an Asus RT-Ac5300. I want to set it up as a wireless AP in the living room and connect it to my modem via a wired router. My plan is to use a 1GBps fiber connection, but I’m having trouble finding a suitable wired router for my home. Since I live in Singapore, my internet speed is around 600 Mbps upload and 500 Mbps download. I’ve looked at a few options: Tp-link SafeStream TL-R600 and Mikrotik RB750G3. I’m planning to connect the modem directly to the wired router, then link the rest of the house to the router for better coverage.

Based on my observations, as long as the unit allows vertical heat dissipation—like a wall-mounted setup with vents—it can endure quite harsh environments before problems occur. I kept my old Asus RT-N16 router in a 35°C+ airy closet for over three years without needing restarts beyond DD-WRT updates. Both routers you mentioned look solid options. I’d favor the Mikrotik model among them, especially since I’ve used it successfully before; just remember to stay on top of its firmware updates.
It's accurate that in Singapore the room temperature can become quite high, especially when placed in a cabinet.
