High pressure tests (prime95, OCCT) produce extremely hot results
I recently assembled a PC equipped with a 9900K and the new Corsair RGB Pro XT 280mm AIO. When I performed an OCCT and SMALL FTTS test in Prime95, it reached as high as 98°C within just a few minutes. In Prime95’s blend test, the peak temperature was 70°C with an average of 60°C. The AIDA64 (CPU + FPU + Cache) readings stayed in the low 70s to 80s, which is significantly lower than the values seen in Prime95 and OCCT. I confirmed my pump, radiator fans, and cooling system were functioning properly. My idle temps are typically around the mid-30s, so this high temperature during operation is unusual. Is the 9900K really that hot, or is there something wrong with me?
It's not the best option, but it works for the brief period. Prime95 doesn't accurately reflect regular use. Consider Aida64 instead.
Check out the prime95 forums to understand the basics of small FFT. It performs computations directly in the CPU caches, bypassing the need for RAM access, which is why it becomes very demanding. The CPU can't cool properly since it's working without pausing. Larger FFT sizes (over 192K) require system RAM, a much slower resource than cache levels, leading to cooler operation. Tasks that stay in the cache and avoid main memory are not typical behavior.
Absolutely, it's extremely hot... like pushing the two strongest CPU processors to their limits. Then... your chip starts shouting. It insists on creating a Custom Loop! Probably because you're thinking about really boosting its speed.
This obligation isn't trivial. Save up until you raise children. Joking aside, my main suggestion is to put money into a complete copper waterblock.
