Hello, I've faced similar issues with my ping in CS2 for more than two years, both on my old and new PCs. It seems the problem isn't related to my hardware since my current setup has good speeds (25/4 Mbps). I usually have a stable ping, but occasionally I notice spikes around 1000-750 during gameplay—about twice per match. The connection is via Wi-Fi 5G/2.4G, and I haven't encountered this before in other games. The ping tends to improve at the start of a round and returns to normal later. If anyone has dealt with this, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Similar issues keep occurring for a while now. It turns out it's not related to Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or the operating system—both Windows and Linux have worked. The only improvement comes from adding a half-packet buffer in the in-game settings, which helps smooth jitter but slightly increases ping. This fix isn't guaranteed. The main concern lies with Valve’s networking and server issues in CS2, along with other problems like the lack of an anticheat feature. TL;DR: The best solution is to enable Ethernet and add half-packet buffering in the settings, but expect some background downloads or torrents to persist. It probably won’t fully resolve everything.

It might be an issue with your ISP or a switch from Wi-Fi to an Ethernet connection.

Join the discussion! Execute a ping test with these IPs (the one connected to you matters most) and check if the issue persists in the CMD prompt 155.133.248.1 (US East), 155.133.249.1 (US West), 146.66.155.1 (Europe), 155.133.251.1 (Asia). For instance: ping 155.133.248.1 -t This will perform continuous pings to the CS2 server networks and inform you if your connection is dropping without the game running. Run another like this: ping 8.8.8.8 -t If your ping fails for both, it suggests a problem on your home network. If only CS2 drops, there may be a specific issue with those servers.
