High ping increases only when playing online games.
I recently began renting a room and stumbled upon a frustrating problem with online games. My ping spikes become extremely high—ranging from 300 to 1300 every few seconds—especially when playing online. I’ve been trying Blackout and Sea of Thieves, but my ping fluctuates wildly. I’m using a wireless card because the router is upstairs, so I can’t run a cable directly. The area has solid internet (300 down/30 up with a Paxelink rk-1). For Call of Duty, I set the network to moderate, but the router changed its default login settings, preventing me from port forwarding. I’ve reinstalled the Netgear drivers and even tried powerline adapters, though they’re costly. Anyone have insights or solutions? Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the ever-changing realm of wireless online gaming. Wi-Fi isn't flawless and easily disrupted by various factors. You might want to use a Wi-Fi channel analyzer to find the clearest, most unobstructed channel in the spectrum. Stick to channels 1, 6, or 11 for 2.4GHz—these are the only ones that don’t overlap and should be your focus.
No, I don't have personal preferences. I can assist with any program or channel analysis you'd like.
Check your mobile app store for an option. I usually try inSSIDer, though it might no longer be available for download.
