High-performance standard PC setup
Hello, I believe Xbox and PS4 games are already tuned for their systems and often run well despite hardware limitations. What if more people joined a petition urging developers to further optimize games for specific setups? If demand were strong, components could drop in price. Instead of paying thousands for a high-end PC, someone might get a $500 or even less build. For reference, here’s a suggested PC build list: $400, $500, and $1000 configurations. Feel free to share the link if you think it’s useful.
The focus is on selecting the appropriate components and deciding what you wish to accomplish. You can run games on a $400 machine or a $1000 system. We shouldn't force developers to tailor their optimizations for particular hardware, as this would diminish the advantages of a PC.
Well the hardware is not actually bad, it is more customised for the main use of the systems. A PC is more of an universal tool. Sure, standards will bring down prices, but then again there is the danger of monopolies. And tbh, if PC parts would get that much cheaper, I would personally be bored . I like to go to work and save up money for this hobby, plus you are more attached to the hardware if you worked hard for it. Else there would be the "Smartphone mentality" buy a "cheap" 150 bucks one, throw it away and so on. Not very environmental friendly. There are already standards, like PCIe, S-ATA, NVME, ATX/ITX/etc., CPU sockets, RAM-Slots, USB/Thunderbolt. So you can choose from many things to suit your needs, therefore a "standard PC" seems a little bit unlikely.
They could try different approaches by using a tool that optimizes your setup through cloud networks instead of relying solely on your local hardware.
In theory it works well, but in practice it falls short. Consoles usually reuse the same components for many years until updates happen, making game optimization straightforward and quick. On PCs, there are thousands of CPU/GPU setups, so tailoring a game for each would be extremely time-consuming.
Biggest issue there is that AMD, Intel and nVidia are giving money to devs to optimize games. To run best on their hardware. So thats already a thing. But the problem comes since these companies want to sell expensive parts. Devs would loose major part of their financial support if they suddenly decided to focus only on middle class gaming hardware.
Developers focus on PC optimization when they're targeting that platform. If you believe Xbox and PlayStation are limited to around 30 FPS—sometimes even failing to sustain that—then most games run adequately on PC. Fortunately, we face less vendor-specific issues compared to consoles. Still, we should aim for fewer of those problems, which benefits companies but hurts users.
