Hi, my friends PC has been experiencing this problem for a while now. I've tried various solutions but haven't found a solution. The hardware specs are: CPU Ryzen 7 2700X, GPU Asus ROG Strix 1070 Gaming OC, RAM 16GB at 3600MHz Corsair Vengeance MB, PSU Gigabyte B450M gaming, 750W 80+ Bronze, SSD Samsung 970 Evo, HDD Seagate Barracuda 2TB. The issue appears only during certain games like Elden Ring, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, Chivalry 2, and Battlefield 2042. Heavy or demanding titles such as Call of Duty, Rust, Apex Legends, and Overwatch work perfectly without problems. Using Riva Tuner and Afterburner on Elden Ring, I observed the GPU and CPU dropping significantly during lag spikes—from 80% to 2% and 45% to 17%. I've replaced the RAM, swapped from an 8GB 3200MHz stick to the new setup, updated Windows 10, upgraded to Windows 11, reset BIOS, performed a fresh OS install, and adjusted power settings. Page file sizes were changed, and I've tried copying games between drives without success. The issue seems tied to the recent changes, especially after the ram upgrade. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

No, I did not alter the drive where the OS is installed.

I won't do that. Instead, I'll ask him to reinstall Windows on the other drive.

Ensure it's an SSD instead of a hard drive, or it could be significantly slower

It’s possible the installation is happening. The issue appears to occur only with certain games, which might indicate a problem during setup rather than a general performance drop.

Completely overlooked the fact he switched from a standard SSD to an M.2 drive and ran a Windows reinstall. Have been dealing with this problem for a while and kept trying various forums without success, losing track of important information.

He lacks any components and can't buy any ATM. Should we consider selling the faulty unit or separate parts, and plan for a replacement build?

It seems the performance varies across games, suggesting a potential software problem. Could you investigate what’s occurring behind the scenes during lag moments? Focus on factors such as hard drive usage, RAM consumption, network activity, and other system components.
