High memory consumption on Windows 8.1, seeking assistance
I just assembled a new PC and completed all the standard tests: prime95 succeeded at over 60 fps, but the memory issue appears. When I launched Dragon Age Origins, it slowed down after some time. I reviewed my system stats—CPU stayed under 50%, temperatures remained below 50°C, GPU also under 60°C—but opened Task Manager and noticed my RAM was at 98% usage. Running Resmon showed no major bottlenecks; DAO was consuming around 500MB, Steam another 80MB, with the rest minimal. After shutting everything down and restoring memory, I regained about 1GB. Even after removing non-essential programs, the PC still used roughly 7GB. This suggests a possible memory leak or configuration problem. Have others faced similar issues? Also, my hard drive usage spiked a few times before resolving, but then disappeared. Could this be related to Windows 8? My hardware: Intel I5-4690k, 212 EVO cooler, Asus GTX 970, Gigabyte Z97X, G.Skill Ripjaws X RAM at 1600MHz, WD Black HDD 1GB, Fractal Design case, two intake fans, one exhaust fan.
Have you performed any virus checks? If not, consider using MalwareBytes. Before starting Malwarebytes, ensure you have a pagefile installed, as missing one might cause your system to run out of memory.
It's a brand new PC, I haven't ran any full system scans, but I had an anti-virus installed since day one, so I doubt it's that. I had checked the paging is enabled, it is on auto, currently allocated 8192 MB. I'm currently checking some other solutions, maybe they'll help.
